Local Cabinets is a project that was created from our interest in the way designers research and explore locality. They have a “curiosity” lens that is sensitive to little mundane things that are mostly overlooked, but somehow have deep meaning and an interesting story behind them. Inspired by the “Cabinet of Curiosity”, this project would like to invite designers to repay the close attention and use “curiosity” lens, taking a ‘scatter-gun’ approach to collecting: to collect anything and everything that caught their attention in the different local areas. After that, they will be asked to design a cabinet to store all pieces that narrate the story and capture the character of the places. We hope that Local Cabinets can act as a public archive that captures the story of that area for people , especially local people, to look closer and see interest in our places through the summary in the cabinets.
