Center for the Promotion of Art Culture and Creative Lanna

Creative Lanna Festival 2024

Currently, the government's perspective and direction in driving the creative economy focus on cultivating a culture of success in cultural districts and generating income from cultural capital within regions. This is propelled through state policies such as The Northern Economic Corridor (NEC–Creative LANNA). The strategy includes collaborative management of cultural capital among universities, local governments, and communities as a distinctive mechanism. This aims to enhance sustainable development by leveraging the economic impact of cultural and regional intellectual capital. Chiang Mai University (CMU) itself pursues the strategic direction of "Creative Lanna" through three Flagships focused on developing product and service areas and fostering entrepreneurial creativity. This aligns with goals to impact both university and northern regional levels. The initiative proposes a multidimensional approach to creating inclusive opportunities through regional-level creative networks, highlighted by the Creative Lanna Festival 2024. This festival aims to drive the creative economy, integrating the concept of "urban rejuvenation," and linking with the Chiang Mai Design Week 2024 under the theme "Scaling Local: Creativity, Technology, and Sustainability." The initiative includes revitalizing CMU Square, incorporating cultural elements such as the Lanna Traditional House Museum and promoting cultural creativity within CMU. It also aims to support local businesses and entrepreneurs, facilitating collaboration with students, staff, and community networks. This approach aims to facilitate knowledge exchange and contribute to SDG11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), particularly in supporting arts and heritage within the university, including promoting and supporting the night-time economy. Overall, this initiative represents a concerted effort to drive sustainable economic development through cultural capital at both university and regional levels, reflecting national policy objectives.
