Homework's fabric
Wonder of Fabric
Wonder of Fabric is an exhibition born from a collaboration between Homework, a textile manufacturer with expertise in innovative fabric creation, and dots design studio, serving as designer and curator alongside creatives who are passionate about reinterpreting local craftsmanship in a contemporary way. Together, they explore new relationships between art, material, and space.
Textiles have long been an essential part of Thai culture, deeply woven into everyday life for centuries. Passed down from generation to generation, this knowledge has continued to evolve and branch out across regions and communities, giving rise to unique local identities and distinctive methods of making. These qualities are expressed not only through production techniques, but also through patterns, colors, and rhythms that inspire ways of living and shape how we see the world.
The Northern region of Thailand, is one of the country’s most distinctive cultural landscapes, known for its unique colors, forms, techniques, lifestyles, and cuisine. This identity may stem in part from the character of its people and from a culture shaped by the blending of diverse ethnicities over hundreds of years. northern textile traditions are especially vivid and expressive, reflecting a spirited and joyful way of life through bright colors and lively patterns.
Drawing from this cultural inspiration, the designers continue and reinterpret these traditions through a contemporary lens. At the heart of the project is a simple question: if we bring cultural roots into our present time, how playful, vibrant, and exciting can they become?
