Russian Soul: modern heritage

The Russian-Thai Business Council, in collaboration with leading Russian designers, heritage brands, and educational institutions, is proud to present a collective showcase titled "Russian Soul: modern heritage" Our participation is dedicated to the festival's theme, "Local Plus: Creativity, Technology, and Sustainability," and aims to demonstrate a modern dialogue between deep-rooted Russian traditions and contemporary design thinking. Our presentation will include: 1. Contemporary Brands Reinterpreting Tradition: We will feature a curated selection of modern Russian brands that use traditional motifs and craftsmanship as their foundation, creating globally relevant products. 1) Abrau Club by Cocos: A premium fashion brand that incorporates traditional Russian embroidery and patterns into modern, sophisticated clothing and accessories. 2) Dress by Stesha: A contemporary womenswear label known for its use of folk-inspired silhouettes, natural fabrics, and artistic prints rooted in Slavic folklore. 3) Selsovet: A brand focused on sustainable design, creating homeware and lifestyle products that echo the simplicity and functionality of traditional Russian village life. 2. Legendary Heritage Brands with a New Vision: We will showcase the Russian artistry from world-renowned centers of craftsmanship, highlighting their evolution and modern collections. a) Palekh Watch: Transforming the ancient art of Palekh miniature painting onto exquisite timepieces, merging fine art with modern luxury. b) Gzhel Porcelain Factory & Gusewsky Crystal Factory: Presenting iconic blue-and-white porcelain and brilliant lead crystal, showcasing both classic forms and contemporary designs that prove the timelessness of these techniques. c) Orenshal & Tvorenie: Brands that bring the warmth and intricate patterns of the famous Orenburg shawls (so light they can pass through a wedding ring) and other traditional textiles into modern fashion. 3. Unique Artisanal Crafts: The showcase will be complemented by a live demonstration from local Russian masters who will create unique, handmade items onsite. This offers a direct, immersive experience into the skill and soul of Russian craftsmanship, from woodworking and ceramics to jewelry-making. 4. Educational & Knowledge Exchange Program: To deepen the dialogue, we will host a series of engaging talks and hands-on workshops conducted by specialists and professors from the HSE University School of Design – one of Russia's most forward-thinking design academies. Their sessions will explore up to date topics. Our Core Mission: Through this multi-faceted presentation, we strive to reflect and showcase how Russia's rich cultural code is being decoded for the 21st century. We aim to illustrate that tradition is not a relic of the past, but a dynamic resource for innovation, sustainable production, and meaningful cross-cultural exchange. We are confident that our participation will contribute significantly to the creative dialogue at Chiang Mai Design Week 2025 and foster new, long-term connections within the global creative community.
