BAAN MUANG KUNG Art Village
Project Title
Baan Muang Kung: Transitioning from Traditional Pottery to Art & Craft Business Based on Local Resources
Project Description:
This exhibition presents the creative transformation of Ban Muang Kung, a northern Thai village with over 200 years of pottery heritage, into an “Art Village” that bridges tradition with contemporary craft business. Through collaborative design, storytelling, and access to niche markets, the project empowers local artisans to shift from traditional pottery makers to creative entrepreneurs. The showcase features a collection of tableware and ceramic objects made from local clay, accompanied by photographs, short documentaries, and an immersive prototype of the Art Village experience.
Rooted in the A–R–T framework, the project demonstrates:
A – Authenticity in art and identity, and Area-based development
R – Richness in local art with a global twist, and acting as a Role model of pottery-to-business transition
T – Transparency in community growth and Talent transfer across generations
This work highlights how art and design can revitalize cultural heritage, generate sustainable livelihoods, and reconnect people, place, and purpose through the power of co-creation.
