RILA – Regenerative Material Collective of Asia

RILA – Regenerative Material Collective of Asia We are a network of designers, researchers, and next-generation entrepreneurs coming together to drive the future of “materials that can grow.” At the heart of our development is the use of natural resources and local wisdom to create materials that are both regenerative and meaningful. At Chiang Mai Design Week 2025, RILA will transform our exhibition space into a Living Lab—a vibrant, interactive space where visitors from all backgrounds can explore, experiment, and engage with the future of sustainable materials. Main Activities in Our Space Include: 1. Architectural Exhibition Made from Regenerative Materials A modular installation constructed from regenerative materials such as mycelium, bamboo, compressed straw, leaf leather, recycled plastic, and more. These materials—many derived from agricultural waste—demonstrate how sustainable resources can become both architectural structure and artistic expression. 2. Open Material Display Table & Data Hub A curated collection of over 10 materials sourced from RILA’s network across Asia. Each material includes information on its origin, environmental impact, and real-world applications—designed for designers, architects, and students interested in the new frontier of materials. 3. Co-Design Zone for Hands-On Participation A creative space where visitors are invited to co-create using natural materials from RILA, guided by our team of material specialists. This activity empowers everyone to become a designer for the environment. 4. Story Wall: “From Waste to Worth” A visual storytelling experience featuring illustrations and real-life case studies that show how everyday waste can be transformed into powerful and purposeful design materials. 5. Daily Talks & Guided Tours Short talks and walkthroughs led by material innovators sharing the behind-the-scenes process of how nature is being re-integrated into the design process—ethically, creatively, and sustainably. RILA is not just an exhibition—it is a movement to design the future. We represent a new vision for the design world—one where sustainability is not just a goal but a shared, hands-on process. Through RILA, Chiang Mai will showcase its potential as a model city for environmental materials of the future. We aim to inspire young designers, connect creative networks, and help the public understand that sustainable materials can be tangible, valuable, and deeply engaging in everyday life.
